Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka urged the people of the North Central Province to ensure a landslide victory for the UPFA Government and express their solidarity with the gallant ‘War Heroes’ who have confined the terrorists to Killinochchi and Mulaitivu only.

Addressing a mammoth rally organized by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Services Siripala Gamlath, in Medirigiriya and Pollonnaruwa yesterday in support of the UPFA candidates contesting the Local Government election scheduled for August 23, the Prime Minister said that the patriotic voters of the North Central Province should use their franchise prudently at this decisive moment where the Armed Forces were fighting the terrorists at the risk of their lives, to end the war.

”Our ‘War Heroes’ should never be isolated. They need to be inspired and motivated to fight the terrorists courageously.

A win for the UPFA Government is an endorsement of their achievements and a blessing to them.

It is the bounden duty and the responsibility of all peace-loving and patriotic masses to rally round the Government and consolidate its position, in order to eradicate terrorism and restore total democracy in the country.

It is a decision whether to wipe out terrorism or not”, he said. He pointed out that the terrorists were not humanists and nor did they respect human beings.

They would target men, women, children, members of the clergy or any one, regardless of their standing.

They would have no regard for the norms and values of society. They would even destroy their own kith and kin.

The Premier further pointed out that the whole concept of the Provincial Council was based on the premise of electing leaders who were born and bred in the respective provinces, as they would be best suited to serve their respective communities.

Accordingly, the UPFA is fielding candidates who are well acquainted with their respective regions, instead of exporting them from outside.
